Chimney climbing techniques

The general used technique is called stemming (pushing against two opposite walls).


Position

  • X-Large
    • Hands: One (points downward) on one wall and one (points downward) on the other wall.
    • Feet: One (outside toe edge) on one wall and one (outside toe edge) on the other wall.
  • Large
    • Hands: Both (pointing downwards) on the back wall.
    • Back: On the back wall.
    • Feet: Both (ball) on the front wall.
  • Medium
    • Hands: One (points downward) on the back wall and one (points upwards) on the front wall.
    • Back: On the back wall.
    • Feet: One (sole) on the back wall and the one (ball) on the front wall. (Switch them on the way.)
  • Small
    • Arm: Elbow on the back wall and hand (pointing downwards) on the front wall. (Armbar)
    • Leg: Foot (outside edge) on the back wall and knee (inside) on the front wall. (Legbar)
