The following four throws are the most common ones used in Judo competition these days.
1. Uchi-mata
– Follow-up throw: e.g. Uchi-makikomi
2. Seoi-nage
– Number one without separated Ippon-seoi-nage
– Follow-up throw: e.g. Seoi-otoshi
3. Sumi-otoshi
– Bundle for push overs of failed throw attempts
– Follow-up throw: e.g. O-soto-otoshi
4. O-uchi-gari
– Follow-up throw: e.g. Ko-uchi-gari
Additional thoughts
– No Morote-gari or Kuchiki-taoshi, because leg grabbing is illegal
– No hip throws, because it’s harder to get the right grips for them
