Tank application types

Bottom tank
– Used at the deep part of the dive
– Normally as backmount (back gas, primary gas)
– Single or Twins tank(s) (each 12 until 18 litre)
– Contains Trimix (deep dive) else Air or Nitrox
– Has an independent regulator

Travel tank
– Used during descend ¹ and ascend ²
– Normally clipped to the side
– One or more tank(s)
– Contains Air or Nitrox
– Has an independent regulator

1) If the bottom gas is unsuitable for shallow water
2) If gas is left it get used as a decompression gas

Deco tank
– To accelerate the decompression
– Normally clipped to the side
– One or more tank(s)
– Contains Nitrox or Oxygen
– Has an independent regulator

Stage tank … Travel tank or Deco tank


Bailout tank
– As backup in case of failure
– Normally clipped to the side
– Single tank (2 until 5 litre)
– Has an independent regulator


Inflation tank
– For inflation of the drysuit
– Normally clipped to the side
– Single tank (1,5 litre)
– Contains argon (in cold water) or air
