Hand grips (also No-Gi)

Basics

Normal/C
The hand grabs with the usage of the thumb.
Monkey
Like the normal grip, but without the thumb.

Hand-to-Hand

Gable
The hands grab each other with monkey grips. One hand grabs the thumb side the other the pinkie side.
Usage: Heelhook, Armbar (defense)
Preacher
The top hands grab with a monkey grip and the bottom hand with a modified normal grip, cause the thumb goes between the thumb and the index finger.
Gokor
The top hands grab with a monkey grip and the bottom hand with a modified normal grip, cause the thumb goes between the index and the middle finger.
Ball & Socket
One hand grabs the other on the backside with a monkey grip on the pinkie side, while the grabbed one gets closed to a fist.
Usage: Ushiro-goshi, Seatbelt, Guillotine
Chain/S
The hands grab each other with their closed, curled fingers. If you uncurl the finger a little bit you can see they look like an ‘S’.
Pretzel
The hands grab each other with a monkey grip, but both on the pinky side.

Other
